Hello my dear friends, today I wanted to reflect to you on my experience in creating the Gender roles game. Abdelrahman, David, and I conducted primary research in order to gain information about different gender roles and expectations in Egypt. Our interviewees were mainly, but not limited to, AUC students with an age range from 18 to 24 years of age. Also, we recorded their curfews and it was clear that females in Egypt tend to have earlier curfews than males, who might even not have a curfew. In addition, we gained more knowledge from the female perspective on the gender roles in Egypt, making the game not only fun but also informative to players of different gender.
Moving on, we modified the first draft by increasing the number of scenarios in order to showcase more on the topic of gender roles and differences in Egypt. In addition, we also added a couple of slides at the very end that sums up our primary research findings and the effects of our personal experiences to the game.
The main difference that we could have added to the final draft, if we had more time, is that we could have done more research (primary and secondary) to make the game even more realistic. For instance, we could have interviewed Egyptian parents, and specialized professors to get their insight and thoughts on the different scenarios that we came up with. Also, we could have added more scenarios based on the extra information that we could have gained from more research, and also to showcase the gender roles in Egypt even further.
We also learned more and expanded our knowledge on the different gender roles in Egypt, especially from the female perspective. In addition, we also learned to utilize google slides hyperlinks in order to create this game-like presentation with visuals, something that we did not know was possible. Moreover, we also enhanced our team-working abilities and gained more skills in order to manage our time and work as a group.
